Requirements to study masters in Germany

A suitable bachelor’s degree is the foremost requirement for admission to study Ms in Germany. This degree should be recognised by the German University you apply to.
Many courses will be satisfied with a recognised Bachelor’s degree. For some competitive programmes, universities may set additional entry requirements such as Secondary education Details, Interview and entry test for prospect students.
Language requirements
A large number of Masters degrees taught in English are more accessible to international students. However, students need to provide language test score (TOEFL/IELTS) for admission to English taught programs.
German programmes will normally require international applicants to pass required level of German language (C1 Level) and certified through examinations like the TestDaF, DSH etc.
English Programmes will not require proficiency in German. But as a student in Germany, you want to interact with people, do internships, travel through the country and make the best of your time there. So, learning German is a great advantage.
In Germany, every University or study programme has a set of criteria for admitting students. It is advisable to check the University website, and programme to find out the exact admission requirements.
A four-year Bachelor degree from countries like India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc are treated at par with a German bachelor degree and most universities accept application for masters provided student’s satisfy other criteria.

Tuition Fees, Funding and Living cost in Germany
Tuition Fees for Masters course
Most universities, colleges, and Engineering schools in Germany (especially the public universities) charge low or even no tuition fees (Free) to all international students worldwide. Some universities have a semester contribution of approx. 100 to 350 euros per semester for student benefits.
A few public universities may charge tuition fee for candidates who pursue their second masters or for some specific courses. It will be less than the amount charged by private universities.
Scholarships and Funding
German government also offers substantial financial support to cover student’s living costs on need-based or merit-based. Scholarships for international students are also available from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).
Living cost
The living cost in Germany is calculated to be approximately 861 euros per month (obviously depends on the living habits of the student). As a student in Germany, you have to pay for semester fee, living cost like food, clothing, rent, telephone, other stationaries etc. International students are permitted to work part time i.e., 120 full days or 240 half days in a year. This will help you to gain some extra money towards your living cost.
Masters in German universities
The higher education institutions in Germany are categorised as Universities (Universities of Technology – TU) and Universities of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen – FH), Research Universities and College of Arts, Film and Music. Technical universities are research-oriented and offer a variety of subjects. These universities can award doctorate degrees.
Universities of Applied Sciences are practice-oriented and offer courses in engineering, business administration, social sciences and design. These have strong connections with industry and offer options like joint supervision of the professor and a company for a master thesis. They do not award doctorate degrees however these master degrees are eligible to apply for PhD at a University.

Prospects of having a Master Degree from Germany
After the degree, you can stay in Germany for up to 18 months to look for a job. Job prospects for post graduates in Germany are good, but most positions will require you to speak German.
Once you find a job, the residence permit for the purpose of studying can be converted into a residence permit for taking gainful employment.
During the studies, students can get the opportunity to do internships with German companies, which open new outlook for professional career. After completing your master degree in Germany, you can choose to take up employment in Germany or any other country; or opt for further studies like PhD; or start your career as independent professional.
Master degree in Germany is an excellent platform for further studies at PhD level. Germany normally welcomes these students to stay in the country subject to the renewal of visa and / or residence permit.
